Forget Christmas celebrations and New Year jubilations – we are fast approaching the next big day. Whether you like it or not, St. Valentine’s Day is happening. It does every year; and with that comes the decisions to make about the choice of gift that will show that special person that you care.
It is often said that women are the hardest to buy for, but whoever came up with such a notion obviously hasn’t tried shopping for a man; they know what they like, and buy it when they need it. It’s a tricky issue and you’ve got to always keep one step ahead – that’s the only way to do it! Here’s the lowdown of the top five things that will always win him over…
Scent is the Most Powerful Sense
This is a bit of a cheeky one because it’s your chance to express your own personal taste. Take the opportunity while you’ve got it! If you know what smells gorgeous to you on a guy, take the plunge and start spraying those testers around. If you’re not too concerned and he’s got his signature after shave, a replacement bottle will never fall out of favour. This is the most win-win thing ever. Especially this time of year there are some great savings to be had on men’s fragrances, so places like thefragranceshop won’t see you out of pocket.
Keep it Traditional
If he’s into jewellery, maybe consider getting him a personalised piece. You can get leather plaited bracelets which have the clasp engraved with wording of your choice, or you could go really out-there and get a cartouche made up of both of your names . It’s a really sweet thought, and although they may seem like they’re not sensitive, guys do appreciate the small things like this. I got Rich a silver guitar plectrum necklace a couple of years ago with a quote from Back to the Future 2, the first film we watched together, engraved on it and he loved it.
Well, that was an experience…
Experiences are becoming so popular nowadays, and for good reason – people would rather hold onto the memories that they make, look back on photos taken and relive anecdotes from the day than have yet another item enter their space. Minimalistic living at its finest! There are so many things to do around the UK from kayaking to skiing to jumping around the tree-tops and swinging from ropes, so you will always find something that you know they’ll love. And it’s a chance for another date – who would say no to that?!
Food, Glorious Food
Let’s face it, when you go out for a meal on Valentine’s day, you are usually sat eating an overpriced 3-course-meal, squashed in because the restaurant is so overbooked and on a time limit to get out so that the waiter can squeeze in the next table. It’s not ideal. Why not buy their favourite dinner and cook it at home? It’s much more relaxed, you can do things at your own paces and it’ll probably be cheaper, too. Plus in my experience most guys are much more interested in a big lasagne or steak than a three course gourmet meal.
New Album Released
Get all of those photos off your phone and make them into something physical. There are many places that have phone-to-paper printing equipment available, and you may even be able to find one in your local supermarket – they’re that common. Put them all in an album and have something precious that you can hold onto and look back on rather than having to scroll through your social media feed.
