I’ve become way more aware and concerned about the chemicals I’m putting in and on my body recently, plus the amount of plastic and other none recyclable waste I produce on a daily basis so I decided I wanted to start taking some steps to reduce those things. For me, one thing I use a lot that I now know is bad for the environment is body scrubs so I decided that should be the first thing I make myself.
I looked at a lot of recipes online and though many of them were great, I didn’t want to have to buy any new ingredients, use none vegan ingredients like honey and nor did I want to be using something chock full of ingredients so I’ve made my own super easy recipe!
What you see above is all I used! I wanted to keep it natural so its just sugar, coconut oil and dried lavender I picked from my mums garden last summer. You can buy dried lavender quite cheaply on eBay or amazon, or just be sneaky and go find a plant somewhere! Since its mostly for scent you could also use other flowers or herbs, I’m thinking of trying rosemary next. You could also substitute the sugar for salt.
All I did was melt the coconut oil in the microwave and then add everything to a glass ramekin. Then I put it in a bowl with water and reusable ice cubes and stirred it as it hardened so that the sugar and lavender didn’t all settle to the bottom. This took a while but was definitely worth it since its all distributed evenly!
Then its all done and ready to use! I keep it on my bathroom windowsill so it stays soft but not melted, if you live in a warmer place you might want to keep it in the fridge until an hour or so before you want to use it!
I love this because its so simple and easily personalised with different herbs, flowers or essential oils. Its also super moisturising while exfoliating really well but gently. If you make this too make sure to let me know what you think!
