Anyone who knows me is more than aware that the foo’s are my absolute, all time favourite band. I have a tattoo of their lyrics, I’m usually found in a foo’s t-shirt, I just absolutely adore them in every way imaginable. And I recently got to see them live for a second time! I don’t usually do posts like this but I just can’t not do it.
First I want to talk about how good their music is and how much it means to me. Theres a song off Sonic Highways that I can’t listen to anymore because it just makes me cry. This is because when I got the phone call telling me my dad had died, I hung up and the song I had been listening to continued playing through my headphones. I had to walk across town to get to my mum and I just listened to it on repeat, the lyrics felt like the only thing keeping me going. The song was all that was keeping me grounded and able to walk rather than just crumble into dust and man, if I could thank Dave Grohl in person for writing that song I would cry like a baby. I honestly don’t know how I would have gotten through the days after my dads death without that song, amongst a few others such as My Hero, which I used to play loud in the kitchen while I cooked and my dad was always wondering in and drumming along (badly!) with wooden spoons on pans.
Next up we have the fact that the foo’s are fucking incredible live. Seriously, Dave’s voice is just as good as it is on their albums and Taylor’s drumming is just insane, I had no idea a drum solo as long as the ones Taylor does could actually keep me interested and entertained. This tour also includes Chris singing, which he didn’t when I last saw them tour, and a sick Ramons cover thanks to Pat being forever punk and drinking champagne out of the bottle on stage.
This was the second foo’s gig that I’ve been at the barrier for and it’ll never get old. For as long as they’re performing I’ll be going to every gig I can afford to go to and I know that every single one will be packed with just as much energy, amazing music and gratefulness as the first one. They’re insanely good musicians, genuine friends and their love for each other and their music transcends everything, I can honestly say I think they’re the best band in the world and I would recommend to anyone that they give them a listen, especially Concrete and Gold, its on par with the best albums you’ve ever heard.
Sorry for this ramble of a post, I know it’s not exactly riveting reading for most people but I like using my blog to mark some memories and, though I won’t forget this anytime soon, I feel like it needs a place on my blog.
