One Year Vegan!

Today, July first, marks exactly one year of me being vegan! I wasn’t sure I’d get this far, but I have and I’m really proud of myself I must say. I thought doing a post about how my experience has been after going vegan overnight and managing to stick with it for a year! It’s definitely gotten easier the longer its been and I definitely can’t imagine ever going back to eating meat and dairy.

Firstly I’ve lost a lot of weight since going vegan, like really. I’ve lost somewhere around 60lbs in the last year entirely through my diet. I haven’t changed anything else about my life style significantly enough to warrant it, I exercise slightly more than I did but not as often as I should. As well as weight loss, my skin is a lot less dry and more smooth, and my hair grows fast (its still a mess though!).

I also feel a lot better in myself, morally I think vegan is the best way to eat and knowing that I’m following my morals and practicing what I preach just feels good and honest. This is clearly where the ‘stuck up I’m better than you’ perception comes from but its not that I think I’m better than anyone, I just think I’m being the best version of me. Everyone else can eat whatever they want! I just want people to be happy!

I feel like for a lot of people some of the main worries of going vegan are things like ‘what if I want to go out to eat or order food?’ or ‘what am I going to eat?’ and its not as hard as you might think. I might just be lucky to live in Liverpool but I’ve found that if you just look around a bit you’ll find something delicious. Lots of restaurants have really good vegan options now and there’s even a take out near me that does vegan pizza and ‘chicken’ nuggets!

I’ve found that the most difficult thing is other people, they just loooooove questioning me about why I’m vegan, what I eat, why I eat it etc. and I’ve found the best way to deal with that is to just have an answer ready to shut them up with. If its a genuine question I’ll give a genuine answer and discuss veganism openly but for the questions that are asked to be annoying or rude, just shut them down. It’s pointless.

There you go! Thats a bit about my vegan ‘adventure’, I hope you’ve enjoyed reading it or at least found it interesting! In celebration of my whole year of being vegan I’ve got quite a few vegan centric posts coming up this month, so if you’re interested in that make sure to keep checking back!
