I’ve tried falafel many a time with all sorts of different ingredients and techniques that have all half worked, kind of worked and also straight up failed, and through all the trail and error I’ve managed to make what I honestly think might be the best falafel recipe ever! It’s easy, pretty fast and damn delicious, aka exactly what I’ve been aiming for this whole time so let’s get into it!
Ingredients
1 tin of chickpeas, drained
Half a brown onion
Half a red onion
Approx 3 tbsp fresh parsley
1/2 tsp salt
1 tsp dried chives
1 tsp dried mint
1/2 tsp cumin
1/2 plain flour
1/4 oats
Method
Throw everything in a blender and pulse until everything is just about combined. Warm up a pan of enough oil to completely cover the falafel until a bread crumb fizzes to the top when dropped in, then turn down to a medium heat.
Shape your falafel with damp hands and fry four at a time for 6-8 minutes or until dark brown. Drain excess oil and then serve!
I served mine with homemade hummus with some chilli flakes on top, if you want to make this too just blend another drained tin of chickpeas with a peeled clove of garlic gradually adding olive oil and soy milk until it’s the consistency you like!
Let me know how it goes for you if you try out this recipe!
