Make Your Own Lavender Smudge Stick!

Lavender has all sorts of correspondences when it comes to Wicca and witchcraft, clarity, love, peace and calmness are all associated with lavender, not to mention how great it can be for soothing anxiety, relieving headaches and offering assistance to fall asleep. I’m telling you all this because my mum recently pruned her lavender ready for autumn and I nabbed everything she cut off. I dried it out, then started looking for suggestions as to what I could do with it.

You can see it was dried out really well and as I browsed the web and Pinterest, I knew I wanted to make it into a smudge stick. I love smudge sticks for the smells they give off and how calming and comforting I find them. I feel like having made it myself only puts extra energy into it and that’s always a good thing!

I gathered together my dried lavender and wound some natural cotton thread around it until it was together tightly and no little leaves or flowers were sticking out. I bent the top back into its self as I wrapped it so I didn’t need to trim it at all.

With my lavender already being dry I could light this straight away, if you’re working with fresh lavender you’ll want to leave it hanging somewhere dry for up to three weeks. It burnt really well, to the point that it was a little difficult to put out, but I managed it! The smell is lovely and it was such a simple but impactful little DIY project.

I’d love to hear any suggestions for other herbs and flowers to put in smudge sticks in the comments!
