Music I’ve Been Listening To!

I didn’t listen to much music through lockdown, because I like it loud and Rich prefers it… Not. With Rich back in work though, I’ve been listening to more music than ever, and I thought it might be time to share what I’ve been enjoying!

Ashnikko

I’m not sure how to describe Ashnikko, she’s in the genre of rap/trap/pop, but mentions her pussy enough to come off as a sort of punk/riot grrrl type of thing, and I love her. Her songs are catchy, her lyrics are smart, and her aesthetic is just super cool. All her videos are fantastic, and she’s definitely not everyone’s cup of tea, but I’d reccomend her all the same.

Baby Queen

Baby Queen is a fairly new artist, and she had me gripped from the second I heard her. The whole ‘anti pop’ thing that’s going on right now is already very much something I’m into, and Baby Queen gives it a totally different vibe to anyone else ive listened to. Her songs are so honest and heartfelt, making them relatable, and her South African accent is lovely to listen to, and adds a bit of an edge.

Lizzo

I don’t feel like I need to say much about Lizzo, because I’m pretty much the last person in the world to get onto her, but isn’t she great!? I love her body positivity, confidence, and the fact that she combines so many elements to create great music. She plays a damn flute!!! Cool as heck.

Childish Gambino

I know everyone else is onto this one too, but hear me out! I watched community, fell in love, and had to explore everyone career, in comes Chidlish Gambino to knock my socks off. Every song he releases is fantastic, he draws inspiration from so many recognisable places to create something unique, and I truly can’t get enough. Any genre or mood can be found with Childish Gambino and I wish Id started listening to him sooner.

Superorganism

I’ve been watching a lot of Tiny Desk videos on YouTube, and found Superorganism through that. I love them because at first I though ‘do they really need that many members?’, and they do. They have such a floaty yet strong sound, and a real sincerity that is lacking from a lot of music. Something For Your Mind would be the song I’d reccomend starting with!

That’s pretty much all the new stuff I’ve been listening to, mixed with my usual Alanis Morissette and Foo Fighters stuff! I’d love to hear your music reccomendations in the comments!
