I Tried Latch Hooking!

Lockdown has been stretching on for so long that I finally gave in and downloaded tik tok. Within five minutes I’d watched at least ten people make a rug, and I wanted to do the same, so when I found this little kit for £4.99 in Home Bargains, I snapped it up!

I’ve never been a big fan of craft kits, but this one seemed like a great place to start! It had its ups and downs, but overall I’m really happy with my tiny rug come wall hanging come whatever.

The pros of this kit is that it has ‘everything you need’ (we’ll come back to that later), the instructions to get you started are really well laid out, and it’s a super fun and relaxing craft! This really small square took me an unexpectedly long time, but it’s so calming that I didn’t mind at all, and it’s so satisfying to see it slowly coming along!

The downsides are that the kit doesn’t quite include everything you need. Mine isn’t quite a square because it didn’t come with enough white yarn, but I have a bunch of the other colours left over even after making sure I’d hooked everything in the right place.

It also doesn’t provide you with what you need to finish it off, nor any instructions on how to do so. I found a YouTube video explaining and luckily had a needle and thread that was appropriate, but if you’re someone that doesn’t have craft supplies laying around, you’d be pretty disappointed.

All in all, it was cheap enough that the little niggles don’t bother me too much, and every time I look at the finished product I smile, so it was definitely worth it! If you want to see more of my experience with this kit, I also made a YouTube video about it!

Have you tried latch hooking before, or would you if you haven’t?
